A Mountain of Anime News Arrived During the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays provide a multitude of activities considerably more enjoyable than scanning the updates: unwrapping gifts, feasting on delicious food, and employing meditation skills to refrain from snapping at family members. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. However, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items came out over the holidays, and just in case you didn't see a few, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)

Truly the biggest announcement, the much-discussed controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the main art for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they could be teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Has a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was yet another outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will probably air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

One more studio renowned for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two

Immediately following the release of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has yet to be revealed.
