Google's parent company the Alphabet conglomerate is set to invest fifteen billion dollars for constructing an AI computing facility in the state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India.

The infrastructure, that is planned in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam city, is going to be a component of Google's global network of artificial intelligence hubs located in twelve different countries.

"It stands as the greatest AI hub that we plan to invest in anywhere in the world, excluding the United States," Thomas Kurien said at an gathering in Delhi, the national capital recently, adding that the financial commitment will be spread over the next five years.

This declaration comes at a time American President Donald Trump has been urging US firms to give priority to domestic investment.

The Expanding Position of India in AI Infrastructure

The country has become a key destination for AI data centers. The nation's affordable data pricing and swiftly increasing online population have made it a focal point for AI and cloud growth for major tech firms.

"The facility will deliver our cutting-edge technology to enterprises and users in India, accelerating artificial intelligence advancement and stimulating expansion across the country," commented Alphabet's chief executive Sundar Pichai.

Initiative Particulars

A definitive arrangement to finalise the project is set to be signed soon, the Andhra Pradesh government confirmed.

"It constitutes a massive leap for our state's technological advancement, progress, and global standing," remarked the state's technology minister Minister Nara Lokesh.

This initiative will combine cloud and AI infrastructure with green energy infrastructure and an broader fiber-optic system.

Andhra Pradesh's Data Center Vision

This initiative is part of the local administration's blueprint to establish 6GW of data center capability by 2029.

Data centres are tangible infrastructures that contain the computer and network hardware that organizations use to gather, analyze, save, and share information.

They contain servers, data storage systems and networking hardware like firewalls and routers, along with the essential electricity and temperature control systems to function properly.

The country's computing facility market has grown rapidly during the last five years, surpassing the one gigawatt capacity threshold in the year 2024 and nearly tripling its 2019 level.
