Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have encountered plenty of interesting independent titles. Yet, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer includes a hero that is literally a turd attempting to navigate to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."
The gameplay is easy to grasp: just use a single jump button. In 150 levels, you'll face mini-bosses and access a store to buy customizations for your fecal avatar.
Execute your actions carefully, as a wrong move means starting over. Bounce off floating orbs to launch your character higher, cross fragile platforms, and interact with buttons to open secret routes. Earn coins and use them on challenging levels in which things gets crazy.
Visually, the game boasts eye-catching environments and catchy music score. The simple art of moving basic polygons evokes memories of fans of classic titles like Earthbound.
Even though difficult to recall previous releases where you play as a piece of feces, video games have long incorporated toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, players craft throwables from protagonist excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as soil enrichment. Naturally, this theme appears a lot in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already received impressive recognition, like taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. This trial version is accessible at present on Steam, with the complete version set to arrive on computers this November.
