Donald Trump has landed in the UK ahead of what marks his second state visit, an occasion labeled as unprecedented in modern diplomatic relations.

Trump and his wife Melania landed Tuesday night at Stansted Airport aboard Air Force One. Their itinerary includes events over the next two days, including meetings with the monarch, armed forces displays, and a possible flypast by the Red Arrows alongside British and American F-35 jets.

Demonstrations Mount Against Trump’s Policies and Statements

Trump’s arrival has triggered criticism from multiple groups in the UK, with the anti-Trump alliance organizing a protest in Windsor on Tuesday and planning a further rally in the heart of the capital on Wednesday.

A leading official claimed the US president of fanning the flames of polarizing, radical politics across the globe in recent years.

The same individual stated that Trump’s deployment of the military in US cities and targeting of marginalized groups echoed tactics taken from the authoritarian’s handbook.

The official emphasized that while preserving strong ties with the US is pragmatic, the UK should not hesitate to speak out against a leader who promotes divisive policies.

Official Greeting and Demonstration Details

Upon arrival, the presidential couple were greeted by US protocol officials and a royal envoy representing the king. The foreign secretary was one of those in attendance to meet the president.

The Trumps then entered Marine One, the presidential helicopter, which departed shortly after their arrival. They were expected to travel to the US ambassador’s residence in a central London location.

At the same time, around 70 demonstrators gathered outside Windsor Castle, carrying placards and shouting slogans such as “Trump out” and “Donald Trump not welcome here”.

A protester stated, “We need to demonstrate that we oppose what is occurring in the world right now.”

Another individual expressed frustration at the UK leadership’s decision to offer such a lavish welcome, calling it “disgusting” and questioning whether Trump deserved such unprecedented treatment.

Royal Events and Military Displays

The royal couple are set to welcome the presidential pair with a ceremonial welcome at Windsor Castle, featuring gun salutes fired simultaneously in Windsor and at the Tower of London.

UK defense authorities stated that this would be the biggest guard of honour provided during a state visit, with about 1,300 armed forces members and 120 horses participating.

The occasion will also include a horse-drawn parade toward the castle, accompanied by the household cavalry, and a Beating Retreat ceremony—a debut such an act has been performed for a state visit.

An elaborate state banquet will feature performances by multiple ensembles, such as the a royal musical unit and pipers from the Scots Guards.

Divided Opinions and Future Engagements

Although many demonstrated, some showed approval for the US president’s visit. One supporter stated that his presence could help in brokering world peace and reinforcing international alliances.

A Windsor resident said that while staying away from demonstrations, they believed the protests represented the opinions of the most in the UK, stating that the state visit seemed intended to appease Trump rather than reflect public sentiment.

Trump is set to visit the country residence of the UK prime minister on Thursday, with military aviators lining the route upon his arrival.
